Construction Costs
Intro | Costs | Time | Sailing
Below I have attempted to break down how money leaked out of my pocket on materials for the boat. These are close estimates from quickly going through receipts with multiple items. You should notice that the epoxy costs are by far the largest category here! Most of my purchases were from West Marine which is the sailing equivalent of a national supermarket chain. As a member of their 'Port Supply' program for the trade, most of my marine purchases (including epoxy, paints, fasteners) were at a 30% discount over their retail prices! - Having said that West Marine is overpriced anyway, and you'd probably be able to find cheaper prices everywhere outside of the exhorbitant San Francisco Bay Area! Other more general supplies were usually cheaper from local hardware stores.
The hardwood was cut locally from fallen 'bay laurel' and 'black locust' trees to provide pieces for the Cross Beam locating Block, Tillers, Cleats, Cockpit Coamings, Dolphin Striker and other pieces.
